Carmona was formerly a settlement identified as Latag, which was annexed for the city of Silang on the latter's generation in 1595. The origins of its name are unfamiliar. In 1856, the settlement's inhabitants demanded the conversion of Latag right into a city, spearheaded by Tiburcio Purificacion.
